32 terrorist acts registered in SFD during 9 months

The Russian MIA department on SFD reports that 32 terrorist acts have been registered in the southern regions of Russia during 9 months of the current year. This has been told to the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent by colonel-general Mikhail Pankov, chief of RF MIA Main Directorate on SFD.

"Most terrorist crimes, 12, haven committed in Kabardino-Balkaria, 9 in Chechnya, 6 in Ingushetia, 3 in North Ossetia," says Pankov. "106 members of illegal armed units, who took part in combat actions on the territory of Chechnya, have been detained since the beginning of the year."

"We identify the channels of arms delivery: 33 hiding places have been found, 300 pieces of firearms have been confiscated," says Pankov.

According to him, a growth of crimes has been registered in SFD during 9 months of the current year. Their total number is 280,000, half of them have been solved "hot on the heels". The crime rate connected with illegal trade in arms has gone up by 1% (5,500 crimes). The number of bribery cases has increased by 15%. Out of the 787 registered cases of bribery, only 17 are related to big and especially big bribes.

At the same time, as the "Caucasian Knot" reported earlier, 59 militants have been killed since the beginning of the year in Chechnya alone (including 6 leaders of illegal armed units), while the number of terrorist acts has gone down by almost 77% as compared with the similar period of the last year. These figures were cited by Ruslan Alkhanov, Chechen Minister of Internal Affairs, when he spoke at the MIA board meeting which discussed the results of their activity during nine months of the current year. According to Alkhanov, 291 participants of illegal armed units have been detained during the period in question, and 127 militants have been persuaded to surrender to the law enforcement bodies as a result of the propaganda carried out. "Considering the criminal cases of previous years, the number of registered terrorist acts has decreased by 76.9%," says Alkhanov.
