Terrorism charges dropped against former Kizilyurt Mayor

The General Prosecutor's Office (GPO) has approved the indictment in the criminal case against the above Magomed Magomedov (known among his friends as Bolshoi Makhach). At the same time, at the end of the investigation, the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF) has dropped the most serious charge against Magomedov – of financing terrorism, which served as the reason for his suicide attempt committed at the SIZO (pre-trial prison).

According to one outlet, the criminal case under the article on assistance to terrorist activity by using one’s official position (Part 2 of Article 205.1 of the Russian Criminal Code) was dropped due to the absence of proofs of the charge; it happened several days before the final version of the indictment was brought against Magomed Magomedov. This episode of the case was closed for absence of proofs. Thus, investigators found it unproven that in 2009 Magomedov allegedly transferred USD 100,000 to the MP Magomedkhabib Magomedaliev to finance the Gimry gang. In 2009, this organized crime grouping did not yet exist, and it was recognized as a gang only in 2013, the “Kommersant” has reported. Magomedov's case will be heard in a jury trial, most likely outside of Dagestan.

At the same time, according to data as of April 29, Magomedov remains on the list of extremists and terrorists, which is published in the website of the “Rosfinmonitoring” (Russian Federal Financial Monitoring Service).
