On April 14-20, one person perished in armed conflict in Northern Caucasus

During the week from April 14 to 20, 2025, one person perished in the ongoing armed conflict in Northern Caucasus. These are the results of the calculations run by the "Caucasian Knot" based on its own materials and information from other open sources.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on April 7-13, 2025, during the armed conflict in Northern Caucasus, two people perished and one was wounded.

Murder in Ekazhevo

On April 14, 2025, Mustafa Katsiev, a son of Magomed-Bashir Katsiev, a former head of the rural administration, was killed in the village of Ekazhevo. It follows from the video recording of the conflict that an unknown person hit Mustafa Katsiev, and when the latter took out a weapon, two men shot him dead. Sources linked the murder to a conflict between the former head and local authorities over a plot of land. After being detained, the suspects, brothers Movsar and Ilez Gagiev, surrendered their weapons to law enforcers. On April 16, 2025, the court sent them into custody.

Detentions

On April 16, 2025, the FSB (Russian Federal Security Service) reported on the prevention of a terror act at the Pyatigorsk Leisure Centre. A Central Asian national was detained; he stated on camera that he was preparing a terror act on the orders of the “Islamic State” (IS)*. According to law enforcers, the man conducted reconnaissance of the area, purchased weapons and components for making incendiary mixtures.

*On December 29, 2014, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation recognized the organization "Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant" (ISIL or IS) as a terrorist international organization and banned its activities in Russia.
