Russian State Duma member Delimkhanov repeats threats to opponents of Chechen authorities

Adam Delimkhanov, a Russian State Duma member from Chechnya, has claimed that opponents of the Chechen authorities who migrated to Europe “will be destroyed.”

“The ‘Euro-Ichkerians’ who fled to Europe continue to disgrace themselves by posting videos in which vile perverts from the LGBT* organization participate in their march,” Adam Delimkhanov wrote on his Telegram channel when commenting on footage of supporters of Chechen separatists and people with Ukrainian and LGBT* flags taking to the streets in Europe.

The Chechen Republic of Ichkeria was an unrecognized separatist state entity in 1991-2000, created after the collapse of the Soviet Union on part of the territory of the former Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (ASSR) and liquidated by the Russian army during the second Chechen military campaign. Ichkeria has not been recognized by any of the UN member states.

“However, both the Euro-Ichkerians and their ‘rainbow’ friends do not have long left. Their satanic nest will be destroyed very soon!” the Russian State Duma member from Chechnya stated.

The Chechen authorities call “Euro-Ichkerians” the opponents of the current regime in the republic who have emigrated to Europe. Bloggers from the Chechen diaspora who criticize the Ramzan Kadyrov’s regime complain of threats. The “Caucasian Knot” has also published a video recorded in May 2016, in which Ramzan Kadyrov threatens the Chechen diaspora in Europe.

Analysts interviewed by the “Caucasian Knot” in 2022 noted that a political split has arisen among Chechens living in Europe against the backdrop of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine. One part of the Euro-Ichkerians advocates the construction of a secular Ichkeria, but they do not agree among themselves, while the second part stands for the creation of a Sharia republic.

*On November 30, 2023, the Supreme Court (SC) of the Russian Federation declared the movement an “extremist organization” and banned the “international public movement of LGBT people.” With this decision, the Court granted the claim lodged by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ), sent to the Russian Supreme Court on November 17, 2023.
