Georgian doctors warn about health risks for journalist Amaglobeli

Mziya Amaglobeli, the founder of the "Batumelebi" and "Netgazeti" outlets can move around the hospital ward, where she continues her hunger strike, but her health condition is a cause for concern, doctors have stated.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on February 5, it became known that Amaglobeli's examination results had worsened; she was hospitalized and continued her hunger strike in the clinic. The hospital staff would demonstratively put food in front of her.

On February 7, a council of doctors convened by the Georgian Ombudsperson visited Amaglobeli at the "Vivamed" Clinic. The doctors categorically demanded that Amaglobeli stop her hunger strike, which could lead to her disability, since she has a gastrointestinal disease.

Mziya Amaglobeli is weak; she can move slowly around the ward; and she is of sound mind, Giorgi Gviliya, a gastroenterologist and one of the doctors of the council, has stated on air of the "Mtavari Arkhi" Georgian TV Company. However, she was diagnosed with poor work of her internal organs – the heart, kidneys and liver.

Doctor Gviliya has drawn attention to the fact that if the hunger strike continues, even at the hospital, changes may develop in Mziya’s body, under which doctors "would not be able to save the patient,"

Let us remind you that Amaglobeli was detained in Batumi on January 12; and on January 13, she was accused of attacking a policeman; she faces up to seven years in jail.
