Protests against Georgian authorities’ policies and Amaglobeli’s arrest continue in Tbilisi

On the 56th day of protests against the suspension of European integration, protesters blocked traffic near the Georgian Parliament. A rally in support of Mziya Amaglobeli, the founder of the "Batumelebi" and "Netgazeti" outlets, was held near the Georgia’s legislative body (Parliament).

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on January 18, Tbilisi marchers put on masks in protest against the ban on covering their faces at protest actions; law enforcers detained seven people.

On January 22, protests resumed near the building of the Georgian Parliament. Protesters blocked traffic in Rustaveli Avenue. Their demands remain unchanged – the appointment of new parliamentary elections and the release of all those detained during previous protests, The “Interpressnews” reports.

Also, a protest action "Solidarity and Freedom for Mziya Amaglobeli!" was held near the Georgian Parliament. Friends and colleagues of Mziya Amaglobeli, a journalist, the director and founder of the” Batumelebi” and “Netgazeti” outlets, have called on her to stop her hunger strike, noting that they are concerned about her health.

At night on January 12, 10 people were detained in Batumi, including Mziya Amaglobeli. In the crush, she accidentally touched Irakli Dgebuadze, the Batumi police boss, with her hand. She was accused of assaulting a police officer; Amaglobeli faces up to seven years in jail.
