Residents of Urus-Martan tell about law enforcers' checks

The checks conducted in the roads of Urus-Martan and nearby settlements by masked armed law enforcers are intended to intimidate local residents after the conflict involving a GIBDD (traffic police) inspector, locals believe.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that more than 500 law enforcers were sent to search for the citizens who had witnessed the conflict with the above GIBDD inspector. Earlier, Ramzan Kadyrov promised to send all the law enforcers to the city, to whom the residents of Urus-Martan "could express their claims." Residents complained about the oppressive atmosphere after the incident. Authorities gathered the elders, urging them to educate the youth.

In Urus-Martan, raids continue to search for eyewitnesses to the conflict, which ended in a brawl of the inspector of the patrol-and-post service of the Chechen Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) with a "Rosgvardiya" (Russian National Guard) fighter.

Road checks are conducted by armed masked law enforcers, Yusup, a resident of the village of Atagi, has stated. In his opinion, these raids are conducted not to prevent road accidents, but more in order to report to Kadyrov, who needs a different result – the detention of those who had treated the incident as a performance and videoed it.

Razet, a teacher of the local school, said, referring to an employee of the district administration, that at night on December 11, about 20 men were detained. "Their phones were taken away from everyone; and almost everyone had a video of the brawl. Not only the participants in the conflict, but also the spectators got into the footage," Razet has explained, adding that other people were also detained; some of them have not yet returned home.
