Activist Roman Taganov tells about problems with medical care at SIZO

The staff of the SIZO (pre-trial prison) has ignored the detainees' complaints about feeling unwell and rendered no help to on e of them even during his heart attack, Roman Taganov, an activist from Adygea, has stated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 13, Taganov was released from the SIZO a week after the decision of the Maykop City Court on his conditional imprisonment came into force. After his stay at the SIZO, Taganov's health deteriorated; he needs medical care, said his wife and his advocate.

During his stay at the SIZO, Roman Taganov repeatedly complained about feeling unwell, but the staff ignored his appeals, despite his fainting and an epileptic seizure, the activist himself asserts.

According to Taganov, on the second day of his stay at the SIZO, he felt symptoms similar to coronavirus. "I had a fever and a severe headache at night. From the first day of my illness, I could not eat and reported about it; I drank only water and hardly moved, because I had no strength. There was no reaction from the administration until the sixth day of the illness, when I had a faint and an epileptic seizure," Roman said.

According to his story, during the seizure, first help was rendered to him by his cellmates. He has added that in his cell there were not enough beds for all the inmates.

"Some had to take turns sleeping on a mattress on the floor or change with those who slept on the bed. During my illness, almost all my cellmates fell ill with a cold and received no medical treatment. On the sixth day of my illness and complaints, I was able to get to a health worker, who, after examining me just advised not to forget to drink water," Roman has concluded.
