Ban of "Sahih al-Bukhari"* angers Kadyrov

The decision to include the "Sahih al-Bukhari"* – a collection of Prophet Muhammad's sayings – into the list of extremist materials should be immediately reconsidered, the head of Chechnya has stated. Muslims are defending the interests of the state only if it does not infringe on their religion, Ramzan Kadyrov has pointed out.

The Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) has included the "Sahih al-Bukhari", the classic collection of Prophet Muhammad's sayings, into the federal list of extremist materials, the "Islamnews" has reported on August 30, citing Ruslan Nagiev, an advocate.

The decision to recognize the hadith as extremist was made by the Laishevo District Court of Tatarstan in December 2021, the "Kommersant" reported on August 30. The scriptures contain theses that deny the secular system of the modern state, as well as signs of a hostile attitude towards persons who don't profess Islam, the "Kommersant" cites the conclusion of the Kazan Interregional Expertise Centre.

The head of Chechnya, Ramzan Kadyrov, believes that the MoJ's decision was due to the fact that "the court eventually resorted to an incompetent expertise."

He has recalled that "Islam obliges Muslims to protect the interests of the state, including at the borders, if the state does not infringe on religion."

The head of Chechnya believes that the court's decision should be reviewed with the involvement of competent experts. Otherwise, Muslims will not feel at home in Russia, in which case "religion already prescribes a Muslim to act in a completely different way," he said, not specifying, however, how exactly in this case a Muslim should act.
