Court mitigates sentence of Malika Djikaeva, convicted in Chechnya in a drug case

In Pyatigorsk, a court reduced the sentence of Malika Djikaeva, who was convicted in Chechnya in a drug case, from three to two years of imprisonment. Malika Djikaeva is to be released in March.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that on March 9, 2020, Malika (Milana) Djikaeva was detained in Grozny on suspicion of possession of drugs, and the court sentenced her to three years of imprisonment. Malika Djikaeva pleaded not guilty.

Forensic examinations confirmed that Malika Djikaeva did not use drugs, her advocate reported. Her relatives believe that the banned substances were planted to Malika in order to punish her for posting shocking videos on Instagram.

“The court seemed to recognize that the case was falsified, but could not acquit her and, as an alternative, mitigated the sentence and actually released it,” advocate Inara Bedoeva shared her opinion.
