More than 20 Georgian citizens still stay in Taliban-occupied Kabul

The Georgian authorities try to organize the evacuation of 23 citizens who worked in Afghanistan and found themselves unable to leave Kabul after the seizure of the city by militants, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of Georgia reports.

Today, at a briefing in the government administration, Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Gvtisiashvili has declared that the Georgian authorities “are doing everything possible” to return their citizens from Afghanistan.

“To return our citizens to Georgia, we arranged a flight from the Kabul airport. We agreed with the partner countries and asked our citizens to come to the airport. Unfortunately, by the time the flight was scheduled, Georgian citizens did not come, and the Ukrainian plane departed without them. We negotiated with other partner countries. There is confirmation that they will be evacuated if they get to the airport,” Alexander Gvtisiashvili said on the air of the “TV Formula”.

There are 23 Georgian citizens in Afghanistan who came there for work, the “News-Georgia” reports today with reference to Alexander Gvtisiashvili.

The Georgian government also intends to send a separate aircraft for citizens of the country. “The negotiations are underway to obtain permission so that our plane would also land in Kabul, and we will be able to deliver citizens to their homeland,” announced Alexander Gvtisiashvili as quoted by the “Sputnik-Georgia” today.
