Opposition boycotts Georgian Parliament on the first day of its work

Most of the Georgian opposition parties, which have overcome the electoral barrier at the parliamentary elections and refused to recognize the outcomes thereof, have applied to the Central Election Commissions (CEC) asking to annul their election lists.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the first round of parliamentary elections was held in Georgia on October 31. In protest against the voting results, the opposition refused to participate in the second round and organized several protest actions.

On December 11, the Parliament of Georgia of the new, the tenth convocation gathered for its first session. It was attended by the MPs from only one party – the "Georgian Dream-Democratic Movement", which received the largest share of votes at the elections.

Most of the opposition parties, which refused to accept the election outcomes, have signed a joint memorandum on the refusal from their MP mandates.

"The political democratic parties of Georgia are declaring a boycott of the functioning of the illegitimate electoral body and demand new elections," states the memorandum received by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent on December 11.

The opposition MPs had appealed to the Parliament before they cancelled their party lists at the CEC, since at the plenary session the credentials of all the 150 MPs were recognized.
