Report on high voter turnout in Chechnya arouses local residents' distrust

During the first two days of voting on amendments to the Constitution of Russia, 28.45% of voters came to the polls in Chechnya, the republic's Central Election Commission (CEC) has reported. In its turn, the polling conducted by the "Caucasian Knot" has shown that only single residents of Chechnya come to the polls.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that the voting on the constitutional amendments in Russia is being held from June 25, 2020 till July 1, 2020.

On June 25 and 26, the first two days of voting, in Chechnya, the voter turnout made 218,238 people, which is 28.45% of the total number of voters on the lists, says the report posted on the website of the republic's CEC dated June 27.

Just single persons come to the polling stations, the residents of Chechnya, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent, have stated. Many stated their unwillingness to vote.

"Neither I, nor my family, nor my friends and acquaintances have and are going to vote. Firstly, because it is unsafe because of coronavirus; and secondly, it is pointless because everything has already been decided," Aslambek, a resident of the village of Pervomaiskaya, Grozny District, has commented.

Zelimkhan, a resident of the village of Starye Atagi, said that he went to vote on June 26. "Apart from me, only two people came to the station during about 40 minutes," he said. Marina, a teacher of one of the Grozny schools, said that on the first day of voting, June 25, about 40 people came to their polling station.
