Dagestani MfE apologizes for war songs from loudspeakers on mosques

The broadcasting of war time songs through the loudspeakers installed by the Ministry for Emergencies (MfE) on mosques in Makhachkala has triggered a mixed reaction in social networks. The action was not agreed with the clergy, the Muftiate has reported. The MfE explained that they wanted to support those who were on self-isolation because of the coronavirus and apologized to believers.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that this year's Victory Day in Russia is held without mass events. Elderly residents of Dagestan have treated the restrictive measures with understanding and said they were ready to celebrate the holiday at home.

On May 9, the composition "Get up, the huge country" sounded from the minarets of three Makhachkala mosques, the "Chernovik" (Draft) weekly wrote, noting that this caused surprise among Dagestanis.

In social networks, many townspeople expressed their indignation at the broadcast of war songs from mosque minarets.

"Where has it been seen that music is played in Allah's house?" the user vorot.art wrote on the Instagram.

However, many saw nothing wrong with the fact that war songs were broadcast at mosques. "They do it right!!! Muslims also were at war!!" the user kotjik has noted.

"In Islam, there is no custom to pay tribute to the dead with infidels' songs. In Islam, it is customary to make a dua for them, to pray," Magomed Magomedovich Gadjiev has explained.

The Dagestani Muftiate has stated that this was an initiative of the MfE "to pay tribute to the military and labour feat of our people." As explained by the MfE, the broadcasting through mosque loudspeakers was launched by mistake.
