Attack on policemen was this year's third armed incident in Ingushetia

According to the calculations of the "Caucasian Knot", the attack on the road-and-patrol service (known as DPS) post, located at the entrance to the city of Magas, the Ingush capital, committed on the eve of the New Year, was the first such incident since November 2017.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 31, the DPS post at the entrance to Magas was attacked. Sources of the "Caucasian Knot" have confirmed the deaths of the policeman, Zelemkhan Kokorkhoev, and one of the attackers. Another attacker was wounded and placed into a resuscitation ward.

Earlier, the Russian National Antiterrorism Committee (NAC) reported that on August 7, 2019, during a counterterrorist operation (CTO) conducted in the village of Voznesenskoye, Malgobek District, a militant, who had refused to surrender, was killed. In the place of the shootout, law enforcers found a ready-to-use improvised explosive device (IED), grenades, automatic firearms and ammunition thereto. According to the NAC, the casualty had recruited supporters with the aim to prepare a terror act and to leave to join militants in Syria.

Before this, on January 13, three policemen and Murad Kodzoev, a son of the former head of the Nasyr-Kort administration, received wounds in the shelling committed in the Sunzha District of the car of Ibragim Eldjarkiev, the head of the Centre for Countering Extremism (CCE, also known as Centre "E"). Eldjarkiev himself did not suffer; but one of the wounded policemen died. Ibrahim Eldjarkiev was shot dead in Moscow on November 2, 2019.

Let us note here that there were no attacks on police posts in Ingushetia since the fall of 2017. On November 5, 2017, a suicide bomber blew up a bomb in the DPS premise near the village of Yandare in the Nazran District. His accomplices opened a shootout with policemen; and the NAC reported two killed militants. Six policemen were wounded; one of them later died at hospital.
