More than 51,000 Ingush residents sign an appeal to President Putin

Today, Ingush activists have handed over to the Kremlin the letter signed by residents of the republic with the demand to cancel the agreement on the border with Chechnya and return the Prigorodny District to Ingushetia.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 1, 2018, participants in the Congress of Ingush Muslims decided to appeal to Vladimir Putin with a request to prevent a violation of the territorial integrity of Ingushetia.

The signing on September 26 by Ramzan Kadyrov and Yunus-Bek Evkurov of the agreement on fixing the Chechen-Ingush border triggered mass protests, the participants of which demanded to bring the border issue to a referendum.

Today, the appeal from residents of Ingushetia addressed to Vladimir Putin has been delivered to the reception office of the Russian President together with 51,319 subscription forms in which residents of the republic express their mistrust in the leader of Ingushetia and demand to cancel the agreement on the border between Ingushetia and Chechnya and to secure compliance with the provisions of the Russian Law "On Rehabilitation of Repressed Peoples" and return the Prigorodny District to Ingushetia.

In the autumn 1992, an armed conflict occurred between Ossetian and Ingush people, who lived in the Prigorodny District of North Ossetia. As a result, according to the Prosecutor's Office, 583 people were killed, 939 people were injured, and other 261 people disappeared. According to various estimates, 30,000-60,000 residents of Ingush nationality had to leave the territory of their historical residence in the Prigorodny District and Vladikavkaz. Most of them settled in neighbouring Ingushetia.

A seven-kilogram box with subscription forms and the appeal to the Russian President were brought to Moscow by Akhmed Barakhoev, a member of the Ingush Committee of National Unity, and Magomed Mutsolgov, the leader of the human rights organization "Mashr", the "Caucasian Knot" correspondent reported.
