Sources report version on Orkhan Djemal's murder

Russian journalist Orkhan Djemal and his colleagues, killed in the Central African Republic (CAR), could fell victim to robbers, reported sources from the law enforcement bodies of the CAR.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that in the CAR, journalist Orkhan Djemal and his two colleagues were killed while working on a documentary film about the private military company "Wagner". It is reported that the journalists were stopped at a checkpoint on their way from Bangui, the capital of the country, to the city of Bombari, and after that they were killed.

Orkhan Djemal was a Russian journalist, a co-founder of the Muslim Union of Journalists in Russia, an author of the book "The Chronicles of the Five-Day War", dedicated to the military conflict between Georgia and Russia in South Ossetia in 2008.

Sources from the police of the CAR mention an attack with a view to robbery as one of the probable versions of the Russian journalists' murder, the "Interfax" reports.

According to Sibu Mayor Henry Depel, a car, in which Orkhan Djemal, Alexander Rastorguev, and Kirill Radchenko were travelling, was shelled from an ambush, and the journalists were killed at the place, while the driver of the car survived. According to his testimony, the attackers were waiting for the car in the bushes, the Reuters reports.

Anastasia Gorshkova, the deputy editor-in-chief of the Centre for Investigations, reported that at the time of the attack, the journalists were going to a meeting with a consultant from the UN mission, who was to help them organize the filming. They had over 8000 US dollars in cash and expensive equipment, the "Dozhd" (Rain) TV Channel reports.

The version of the attack and murder with a view to robbery is possible, believes Veronika Kutsyllo, the editor-in-chief of the "MBH-Media". "We do not know for certain, but that is quite possible, since it is the Central African Republic," she said as quoted by the "Rosbalt".
