Sources: Dokku Umarov's body found in Ingushetia

Remains of a human body supposedly belonging to Dokku Umarov, the leader of the "Imarat Kavkaz"*, were found in mountains of Ingushetia and brought to Moscow for examination. This has been reported today by sources from the Investigating Committee of the Russian Federation (ICRF).

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 18, 2013, in Moscow, Ramzan Kadyrov, the leader of the Chechen Republic, told journalists that Dokku Umarov, the leader of the terrorist organization "Imarat Kavkaz", banned in Russia, "had long been dead." On January 16, 2014, Ramzan Kadyrov specified that Dokku Umarov had been killed "during one of the special operations."

Militants of Northern Caucasus confirmed the information about the Dokku Umarov's death, but they insist that Dokku Umarov was not killed in a special operation, but died of poisoning.

The operation to extract bodies of several persons in the mountains of Ingushetia was carried out "late last week." At present, the found bodies are in one of the forensic examination centres in Moscow, the REN-TV reports today with reference to its own source.

According to the REN-TV, investigators suggest the found remains were bodies of militants, namely Dokku Umarov and several members of the armed underground close to him. The deceased persons will be formally identified following the results of the examination.

The place of the Dokku Umarov's grave was shown to investigators by a man detained for involvement in hostilities on the side of militants in Syria, the RBC reports today with reference to sources from the ICRF's regional and central offices.

*The organization is recognized as a terrorist and banned in Russia by a court's decision.
