Experts admit Caucasian trace in Saint Petersburg terror act

The armed underground of Northern Caucasus may be involved in the explosion in Saint Petersburg, as it has sufficient capacities to recruit executors for such terror acts, said the experts, interviewed by the "Caucasian Knot".

Today a terror act was committed in Saint Petersburg. It is known about ten perished people and 50 injured ones, as estimated by the authorities.

Sergey Goncharov, the President of the International Association of Veterans of the "Alpha" Anti-Terror Unit, agrees that the incident was a terror act. He did not rule out that the citizens of the Russian Federation, who had returned from Syria, might be involved in the organization of the explosion.

Recently, the armed underground has activated in the Caucasus; and the terror act in Saint Petersburg may be within this trend, said Alexei Malashenko, a member of the scientific council of the Moscow-based Carnegie Centre, recalling the recent attack on the “Natsgvardia” (Russia’s National Guard) unit in Chechnya. However, he does not understand why Saint Petersburg became the point of attack.

At the same time, he is sure that the Caucasian armed underground is now fully capable of launching a large-scale terror act in Central Russia.

Alexander Perendjiev, an expert of the Association of Independent Military Political Analysts and Associate Professor at the Division of Political Sciences and Sociology at the Plekhanov Russian Economic University, has also not ruled out that the explosion could be organized by Caucasian militants.
