Kadyrov to challenge decision to treat Koran quotes as extremist

As reported by the head of Chechnya Ramzan Kadyrov, a complaint has been prepared against the decision of the court of the city of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk to treat as extremist the book "Appeal (Dua) to Allah, Its Value and Place in Islam".

According to Kadyrov, the court found extremism in quotations from the Koran, which are fundamental for prayers pronounced by 1.5 billion Muslims around the world.

The court decision, which angered the head of Chechnya, states that experts, including professors of the Sakhalin State University, after analysis made a conclusion that the verses (ayats) in question "have a hidden call to commit illegal and extremist actions."

Experts have also treated the content of some parts of the above book as "socially dangerous for the civil society, because they may create a positive attitude to extremism and influence people's worldviews."

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that last year the Muslim community managed to achieve the abolition of a similar court decision on treating as extremist the book by the Azerbaijani religious philosopher Elmir Kuliev "Semantic Translation of Holy Koran into Russian", which was made by the Oktiabrskiy District Court of Novorossiysk on the claim of the city's transport prosecutor's office. The court decision was appealed against; and three months later it was cancelled by the Krasnodar Territorial Court.
