Residents of South Ossetia have outlined their expectations from Kambolov.

The newly elected president of South Ossetia, Marat Kambolov, must address the issues of mass youth emigration, acute job shortages, high dependence on state employment, and the continuing rise in car customs duties, believe the residents of the republic.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", on September 19, the Central Election Commission of South Ossetia recognized Marat Kambolov as the elected president of the republic. He received 84.95% of the votes from those who participated in the voting.

Elena is 38 years old, has four children, and her eldest daughter will graduate from school next year. She evaluated what it would be like for her children to live in the republic and whether her eldest daughter should go to study in Russia.

"I am thinking about what would be better for my daughter: to go study in Russia or to stay here? Honestly, I am afraid to let her go to Moscow or any other city. Such things are happening everywhere now, it is very unsafe. Would it be better to stay here?" – said Elena to the correspondent of "Caucasian Knot".

For a graduate of the South Ossetian State University, finding a job in the republic is no harder than for a graduate of a university in Russia, and perhaps even easier, believes Elena.

"I don’t know what could make our youth return. I don’t see any prospects for this yet, although a lot is being done and promised lately. But there are indeed results now, for example, there are no more traffic jams at customs," – she said.

Elena called the presidential elections in South Ossetia the most predictable, but not boring.

"There have been so many events in these months that I can hardly keep up with everything. The children are constantly at some events. Of course, I enjoy it. We didn’t go anywhere to rest this summer, but my children didn’t get bored," – Elena said.

Madina is 51 years old and is a cosmetologist. She considers the return of people, especially youth, a very difficult and seemingly unsolvable problem, but believes that this is not a reason to give up attempts to solve it.

"Everyone criticizes the plans to build a water park and other entertainment places… They say, for whom is this if we have nowhere to earn? I believe that if people are given a "first matrix" where they will feel good, they will start creating jobs themselves and will look for ways to stay. This is basic psychology. Of course, jobs need to be created, but these "entertainment lures" are also very good for us," – Madina told the correspondent of "Caucasian Knot".

Atsamaz is 30 years old. He named the rising cost of car customs duties as another problem he expects Kambolov to address.

"The main thing I want to note is that there are no more traffic jams at customs. I want everything to work like this. This means the problem can be solved. But no one is talking about another problem, and I want Kambolov to be asked about this too. What will be done about customs duties? This year, the prices for customs duties on cars have risen, and next year they will rise again. If they really want to raise prices like in Russia, no one here will be able to afford a used foreign car, only Russian cars," – Atsamaz told the correspondent of "Caucasian Knot".

To solve the demographic problem and return youth, Atsamaz also suggested that the government should put less pressure on people so that those who want to start a business or develop their own affairs can do so.

"In our case, if the government doesn’t give you a job, you have nowhere else to go. This is wrong. Why should I depend on someone?" – he said.

Atsamaz admitted that he went to vote in the recent presidential elections for the chance to participate in a lottery and win a car.

"I think all the candidates, except Kambolov, didn’t even try to win. Compared to other elections, when candidates went door to door, met with groups, now, except for Kambolov, no one was visible. They even fell in my eyes, it’s somehow unmanly to give up like that from the start. Why even go to the elections at all?" – Atsamaz said.

Ibrahim works in a state security enterprise and, during breaks between shifts, does private transportation between Tskhinval and Vladikavkaz. He considers the elimination of multi-kilometer traffic jams at the border between South Ossetia and Russia the main result of Kambolov's coming to power and believes that solving this problem has brought him much support among the residents.

"A huge part of my life has passed in these traffic jams. You never know when you will reach your destination, what problems your passengers have, and they are nervous, and I was nervous… I can’t even name five people among my acquaintances who don’t need to go to Vladikavkaz at least once a month for business. And everyone was still stuck in traffic for hours. But for two months now, we have breathed, really breathed. I hope the other problems will be solved like this too," – Ibrahim told the correspondent of "Caucasian Knot".

He also admitted that he went to the elections to participate in the lottery organized by the authorities for voters. The main prize was a "Niva" car.

Lera is 24 years old and is a teacher. She is not familiar with the programs of any of the candidates.

"Now it seems that only a blind, deaf, and mute person wouldn’t understand why all this was done and how everything will go on. I agree, contests and lotteries are very cool. A lot of money was spent. This means there was money before and still is, money that could have been spent on the republic and not brought it to such a situation," – Lera told the correspondent of "Caucasian Knot".

She joked that if there is no lottery in the next elections like now, no one will go to vote anymore.

Recall that on September 6, social media users, commenting on Kambolov's report on the work of the public support headquarters, called on him not to forget his election promises and to achieve solutions to the stated problems.
