The prospects of the campaign by activists from Turkey for the de-isolation of Abkhazia are in doubt.

The campaign of Circassian and Abkhaz organizations in Turkey for the de-isolation of Abkhazia will not receive further development, as it was linked to preparations for possible early parliamentary elections in Turkey, said Circassian activist Kase Kik. Social media users also doubted the prospects of recognition of Abkhazia's independence by Ankara and urged Circassian organizations to focus on the problems of the Circassians themselves.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", earlier Circassian and Abkhaz organizations in Turkey supported the campaign for lifting the transport isolation of Abkhazia, but assessed its ultimate goal differently, including recognition of independence. Analysts from Turkey called the diaspora's demands primarily humanitarian, while official Ankara still advocated for the territorial integrity of Georgia.

The campaign for the de-isolation of Abkhazia, which began in August in Turkey, has not received further development and is unlikely to, believes Circassian activist Kase Kik.

This initiative was part of preparations for possible early parliamentary elections in Turkey this year, Kik believes. "It was purely an electoral action aimed at attracting voters' attention," he told a correspondent from "Caucasian Knot".

Commentators doubted Turkey's readiness to recognize Abkhazia's independence

A post on the "Caucasian Knot" Facebook page* about Circassian organizations in Turkey joining the campaign for the de-isolation of Abkhazia received 345 comments. Some commentators doubted that Turkey would recognize Abkhazia's independence. "There will be no recognitions, any humanitarian aid only after consultations with the Georgian government. Turkey recognizes the territorial integrity of Georgia," wrote Rapor.

"Turkey will never do this," stated Zhanna Chkoidze.

"Turkey will never sign and will not go for this adventure; Turkey itself is not comfortable breaking the law because it will get the opposite: it will awaken the Kurdish problem and lose a huge economy in Georgia, Russia itself will not like this step, the rest of the world community will also be dissatisfied, and Turkey will lose its authority on the world stage," believes Rai Raoul.

Other commentators urged Circassian organizations to focus on the problems of the Circassians themselves. "Why haven't the Circassian organizations taken on the problems of the Circassians themselves, I wonder?" asked Alexander Tsnobiladze.

"Circassians living in Turkey should first <…> think about returning to their historical homeland <…>, and raise this issue in international organizations," stated Anar Hasan.

Recall that Georgia considers Abkhazia and South Ossetia to be territories occupied by Russia after Russia intervened in the armed conflict between Georgia and South Ossetia on August 8, 2008, and then recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia, as stated in the "Caucasian Knot" reference on the "Five-Day War" of 2008. Venezuela recognized the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia in September 2009.
