Associates reported a deterioration in the health of the arrested Azerbaijani opposition figure.

Arrested member of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, Alizamin Salayev, has declared a hunger strike and is facing a sharp deterioration in health. Furthermore, Salayev is not being provided with the court's decision on his administrative arrest, which deprives the politician of the opportunity to appeal the punishment.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the chairman of the Salyan district organization of the APFP, Alizamin Salayev, was detained on September 4, and the next day was arrested for 30 days on an administrative case. He is charged with petty hooliganism and disobedience to the police. The APFP stated that the persecution of Salayev is related to his opposition activities and defense of citizens' rights.

Alizamin Salayev's health has deteriorated in the temporary detention facility of the Salyan district police, reported the head of the press service of the APFP, Natig Adilov, to the correspondent of "Caucasian Knot".

"Alizamin Salayev declared a hunger strike in protest against his detention and administrative arrest since the day he was taken into custody. His health has been undermined by prison sentences and hunger strikes during his time in pre-trial detention and colonies. Moreover, he has diabetes, and refusal to eat regularly poses special health risks. His condition has sharply worsened. He required an ambulance twice on September 8 and 9," Adilov said.

Associates are concerned for Salayev's health and life. "We conveyed to Alizamin Salayev a request from the party leadership to end the hunger strike," Adilov said.

According to him, Salayev is also not being provided with the court's decision on his administrative arrest. "Neither Alizamin Salayev nor his family are being given the court's decision, which complicates the filing of an appeal. This violates the right to defense. The appointed lawyer is also avoiding contact, and he is not providing the court decision either," Adilov stated.

Salayev's family is also concerned about their father's condition. "It has not been a month since our father was released from prison when he was arrested again. He has serious health problems. Doctors recommended him for surgery. He is unwell, and an ambulance was called for him twice. But we are not being told what is wrong with him," said the politician's son, Oktay Salayev, to the correspondent of "Caucasian Knot".

Recall that on April 20, 2020, Salayev was found guilty of defamation and insult and sentenced to two years and three months in prison. The basis for the charges was a social media post with his criticism of a police officer. In January 2022, he was released early under an amnesty. In July of the same year, he was administratively arrested for 30 days. In 2019, Salayev was subjected to administrative arrests four times. After his release, he talked about torture in the police.
