A fighter from Karachay-Cherkessia was killed in the special military operation zone.

Vladimir Zgonnikov was killed in combat. Since the beginning of the military operation in Ukraine, at least 204 fighters from Karachay-Cherkessia have been officially recognized as killed.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", by August 20, officials and security forces officially recognized at least 203 fighters from Karachay-Cherkessia as killed in the military operation in Ukraine.

Vladimir Zgonnikov was born on July 22, 1988, in Cherkessk. From 1995 to 2004, he studied at city school No. 2, and then graduated from lyceum No. 8 with a specialty in "auto mechanic." In 2006, Vladimir began military service in the radio-technical support troops of the Russian Air Force. In 2008, he signed a contract for military service. After the army, he worked at the municipal enterprise "Zelenstroy" in Cherkessk, and then in the paramilitary security of a fish factory in the village of Oktyabrsky in the Kamchatka region. In October 2022, Vladimir signed a contract with the Ministry of Defense of Russia and went to the area of the special military operation. In early 2023, he participated in the assault on the outskirts of Artemovsk (Bakhmut) in the Donetsk People's Republic, where he was killed. On April 12, 2023, he was posthumously awarded the medal "For Courage," the administration of Cherkessk reported today on its Telegram channel.

Thus, at least 204 fighters from Karachay-Cherkessia have been officially recognized as killed on the Ukrainian front. The "Caucasian Knot" maintains a named list of natives from the North Caucasus Federal District and Southern Federal District who were killed in the military operation. The list is compiled based on data officially announced by representatives of the authorities and security agencies, according to the "Caucasian Knot" report "SVO Statistics: Losses in Southern Russia are Growing".

In January, the authorities of Cherkessk reported that Oleg Balyasnikov and Temirlan Shungarov were killed in Ukraine.

State awards, memorial plaques, and appearances on "Channel One" do not guarantee support from the state for the families of the killed, according to the material from the "Caucasian Knot" "Three Comrades Served: How Authorities Deny Benefits to Families of Killed Volunteers", which describes the stories of the killed fighters. "I receive only 12,000 rubles a month for two minor children as a family of military pensioners," said, in particular, the widow of one of the killed.
