Participants of the action at the EU office in Yerevan demanded the release of political prisoners.

The authorities of Armenia are persecuting their opponents due to political activities against the backdrop of silence from international human rights organizations, participants of the action at the EU office in Yerevan stated.

"Caucasian Knot" reported that on July 10, a candidate for deputy from the "Prosperous Armenia" party and a member of the board of the "Mother Armenia" party, Aregnaz Manukyan, was arrested for two months. A month earlier, on June 12, employees of the Investigative Committee of Armenia searched Manukyan's apartment and interrogated her in the case of Tevanyan. Aregnaz Manukyan's defense appealed her arrest on July 20.

Commenting on footage of Aregnaz Manukyan being transported from the correctional facility in a police van, Zograbyan compared this treatment to the selective leniency of law enforcement towards figures involved in high-profile criminal cases, and also recalled similar cases from European practice.

"I watched the footage of Aregnaz Manukyan being transported in a cage van from the correctional facility to 'Abovyan'. They did everything possible to keep her in absolute isolation," said Naira Zograbyan.

The former deputy also criticized international human rights organizations, European institutions, and local human rights NGOs, accusing them of double standards and ignoring violations of the rights of political opponents of the authorities.

Where are all these organizations for the protection of women's and children's rights that used to beat their chests and wave international conventions? Lawyer Tatevik Sogoyan reported that today Manukyan was allowed to meet with her daughter, the agency reports.

Member of the "Mother Armenia" faction of the Yerevan Elder Council Manuk Sukiasyan stated at the action at the EU office that Andranik Tevanyan, who is in custody, is being tortured, writes Armenia Today.

According to him, bright light was kept on in Tevanyan's cell around the clock for several days, preventing him from sleeping normally.

Sukiasyan also stated that European and international human rights structures should assess politically motivated persecutions.

The former deputy from the "I Have Honor" faction Anna Mkrtchyan accused the EU representation of failing to respond adequately to political persecutions, stating that the principles of human rights and freedoms declared by European structures are not reflected in their position on the situation in Armenia.

The former deputy from the "Armenia" faction Garnik Danielyan called on representatives of the public, culture, and former politicians to publicly support the opposition members in custody. He stated that public pressure has already led to the revision of restrictions in some cases, according to the publication.

"Prosperous Armenia" and the "Mother Armenia" party participated together in the parliamentary elections. Gagik Tsarukyan's "Prosperous Armenia" party, along with other opposition political parties, previously issued a statement about the illegitimacy of the authorities and plans to seek their removal.
