Nine people became victims of the accident involving a tourist boat in Dagestan.

A tourist boat sank in the Sulak Canyon after colliding with a rock, one passenger died. Eight other passengers required medical assistance.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of August 12 near the settlement of Zubutli-Miatli in the Kizilyurt district of Dagestan.

“When the boat capsized, a woman born in 1966 ended up in the water. By the time rescue services arrived, the body of the deceased had been retrieved from the water by witnesses,” reported the main department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Dagestan on its “VKontakte” page.

The boat capsized after hitting a rock, investigators found. They have opened a criminal case regarding the death of the woman, TASS reported. The investigation is being conducted under the article on violation of safety rules for the movement and operation of maritime and inland water transport, resulting in death through negligence 1 .

The deceased, a 60-year-old woman, was a tourist from Izhevsk, and at the moment of the boat's capsizing, she was thrown overboard. In total, there were 11 people on the sightseeing boat, notes the Telegram channel “112”.

The head of the Public Monitoring Commission of Dagestan, Shamil Khadulaev, claims that during the excursion, “the helmsman lost control and crashed into a rock,” after which seven people fell into the water. “A temporary ban on boating has been introduced in the area,” he wrote in his Telegram channel, without specifying how long the ban would last.

The capsized boat sank. Eight passengers who were brought to shore required medical assistance, but they refused hospitalization.

“Caucasian Knot” reported that in May 2025, during a boat trip in the Sulak Canyon, a tourist from the Yaroslavl region died, and four others were injured. The organizer of the trip was arrested afterward.
