The sale of gasoline in canisters has been named the cause of the fire in Rostov-on-Don.

An employee of a gas station in the Voroshilovsky district of Rostov-on-Don sold gasoline and diesel fuel in thousand-liter canisters, which led to a fire. The driver then drove the burning car into the yard of a residential building. The gas station, 21 cars, and a three-story building were damaged. The investigation reported a case against the gas station employee who violated the ban on dispensing fuel into canisters, and against the driver who planned to resell the fuel.

As reported by "Caucasian Knot", the governor of the Rostov region, Yuri Slyusary, reported that law enforcement agencies compiled a number of materials regarding local enterprises for overpricing fuel. Local residents, commenting on his report on Telegram, pointed out that at some gas stations fuel is sold for 100-150 rubles per liter, and there are still long queues.
After the fire at the gas station in Rostov-on-Don, which damaged the building and more than 20 cars, another criminal case was initiated for selling fuel with dispensing into plastic containers, reports the press service of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation.

"According to the investigation, on the night of August 4 to 5, 2026, an employee of a commercial organization, while dispensing fuel at the gas station located on Koroleva Avenue in Rostov-on-Don, violated fire safety requirements. Gasoline and diesel fuel were dispensed into plastic containers with a volume of 1000 liters, not intended for the storage and transportation of fuel, which led to the fire at the gas station," the message states.

A criminal case against the employee has been initiated under the article for performing work that does not meet safety requirements (part 1 of article 238 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).

On the night of August 5, two containers with gasoline in a Ford Transit caught fire at the gas station on Koroleva Street, 19/1. The driver drove the burning van into the yard of a house on Cosmonauts Avenue, 41/3, where the fire spread to parked cars.

As a result, 21 cars burned, and a three-story building was also damaged. There were no casualties. Fires at two addresses started around 01:04 and were completely extinguished by 02:42.

A 43-year-old resident of Melitopol, Alexey Ryzhikov, was detained around four in the morning. According to him, he planned to resell the gasoline in eurocubes in Melitopol, writes "Bloknot Rostov."

A case has been initiated against the detainee under the article for intentional destruction or damage to property (part 2 of article 167 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation), informs "Interfax."
