At the court session, Grozny resident Said-Magomed Omarov, accused in the murder case of Dagestani resident Alexei Kardashov, refused to testify, citing the Constitution.

In 2023, the Nozhai-Yurt District Court found Said-Magomed Omarov guilty of murdering Dagestani pharmacist Alexei Kardashov and sentenced him to eight years and two months in a strict regime colony. Previously, in 2020, the court sentenced Omarov to nine years in a colony for the murder of Kardashov and the theft of his car. This sentence was overturned by the Supreme Court of Chechnya. The mother of the murdered man stated that Said-Magomed Omarov participated in the abduction of her son, but not in the murder. She indicated that the sentence for Omarov would allow the murderers to evade responsibility. The Gudermes City Court is re-examining Omarov's case, where on May 5, witnesses did not appear.

The next court session regarding Said-Magomed Omarov took place on July 31, a representative of the "Team Against Torture" told the correspondent of "Caucasian Knot".

"Regarding witnesses Duev and Gumkhanov, who did not appear at the court session, acts were presented about the impossibility of their delivery, the impossibility of establishing their whereabouts. After that, the court, at the request of the victim, announced her testimony in the presence of the victim's representative," he said.

Then, according to him, they proceeded to interrogate Omarov. "Omar invoked Article 51 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation (refused to participate in the interrogation), his testimony during the investigation was announced. Although Omarov also refused to answer questions from the victim's representative, citing Article 51, nevertheless, questions were posed to the victim's representatives, to some of which the defendant responded. In particular, he confirmed that before his detention in September 2017, he was acquainted with Abdurashidov, and in emotions said that he remembers nothing, as he has been in isolation for the last 7.5 years. However, the testimony announced by the state representatives is fully confirmed," said the representative of the KP*.

The date of the next session is still unknown. "At the next session, written evidence that exists within the framework of the criminal case will be examined," the representative of the KP* concluded.
