A resident of Malgobek has been detained in a case of justifying terrorism.

Law enforcement officers in Ingushetia detained a young resident of Malgobek on suspicion of publicly justifying terrorism on social media.

"Caucasian Knot" reported that courts in southern Russia regularly sentence local residents to real prison terms for publications on social media under the article on justifying terrorism via the internet. It is impossible to establish the actual number of such sentences, as not all cases of justifying terrorism make it into public court registries.

The suspect is 19 years old, and the case against him was initiated based on materials from the FSB department for Ingushetia. The article on publicly justifying terrorism via the internet (part 2 of article 205 of the Criminal Code of Russia) provides for a prison term of five to seven years.

According to the investigation, in July 2024, the suspect posted a text on his social media account justifying the activities of leaders and members of a terrorist organization banned in Russia. "The suspect has been detained, and the question of choosing a preventive measure is being considered," the Investigative Committee of Ingushetia reported on its Telegram channel.

The name of the terrorist organization is not mentioned in the report, nor is the name and occupation of the suspect disclosed. The press service of the agency did not specify what preventive measure the investigation intends to insist on. The "Caucasian Knot" currently does not have comments from the suspect or his defenders.

"Caucasian Knot" also reported that a minor resident of the Astrakhan region came under investigation for publicly justifying terrorism on the internet due to publications in her Telegram channel.
