An activist of the opposition Azerbaijani party was arrested for 30 days.

Azerbaijan Popular Front Party activist Anar Huseynov has been arrested for disobeying police. The party believes the charge is trumped-up and politically motivated.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on November 29, 2025, State Security Service officers detained Ali Karimli and his advisor, Mammad Ibrahim, a member of the PFPA presidium. Both opposition figures were arrested for two and a half months, until February 13. Karimli was charged under Article 278.1 of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan (actions aimed at the violent seizure of power or the violent change of the constitutional order of the state). He denied the charge and called his criminal case political persecution. On February 9, the arrests of Karimli and Ibrahim were extended for another four months, and on June 10, for another five months.

PFPA member Anar Huseynov, known as Anar Arkivan, went offline on June 16, some time after the Baku Court of Appeals hearing on the case of party chairman Karimli, said Gulnara Rahimova, a spokesperson for the opposition party.

“We were at the building of the Baku Court of Appeals, where Ali Karimli’s complaint was being heard. A group of party members were planning to go to the Saatli district the next day (June 17) to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the death of Karimli’s father, Amirhuseyn Kerimov. Anar was supposed to arrange transportation. However, he later stopped answering phone calls. It later emerged that he had been detained by traffic police while returning from court in his car. Security forces drew up a report stating that Anar Arkivan allegedly disobeyed the police and arrested him for 30 days. This "Anar was arrested on false charges for active participation in the activities of the Popular Front Party," said Ragimova, deputy chair of the PFPA's Narimanov District branch.

Natig Adilov, head of the PFPA's press service, provided details of Huseynov's arrest. "On June 16, Anar Arkivan was detained by state traffic police officers. They accused him of allegedly talking on the phone while driving and demanded a fine. However, Anar protested because he wasn't talking on the phone. This was clearly a planned provocation. Because other police officers immediately appeared and Anar was taken to the Narimanov District Police Department. The next day, by decision of the Narimanov District Court, Anar Arkivan was arrested for 30 days," Adilov told a "Caucasian Knot" correspondent.

He called Huseynov's arrest "politically motivated." “Anar Arkivan has been subjected to administrative arrests several times before. The last time he was arrested was in January of this year. Arkivan’s arrest is part of a wider repressive campaign against the PFPA. More than 20 PFPA members, including our leader Ali Karimli, are being held in prison on criminal charges. Recently, another PFPA member, Alikhan Rajabli, was sentenced in a false drug case. In addition, the most active members of the party are periodically subjected to administrative arrests. The pressure does not stop even in prison. Ali Karimli was recently banned from making phone calls from the pre-trial detention center after the publication of his interview,” Adilov said.

An employee of the Narimanov District Court of Baku confirmed the arrest of Huseynov.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," Anar Huseynov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, was arrested in January for 30 days on charges of disobeying police and petty hooliganism. The party believes the case against Huseynov is fabricated and politically motivated.

Furthermore, Anar Huseynov was detained on January 20, 2023, by plainclothes officers near the Cabinet of Ministers building after he visited the Alley of Martyrs with party members on the Day of Mourning for "Black January." On the same day, by a court decision, he was arrested for 30 days on charges of committing offenses under Articles 510 (petty hooliganism) and 535.1 (failure to comply with the lawful demands of a police officer) of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Azerbaijan.
