A soldier was convicted in Nalchik for failing to appear at a collection point.

Contract soldier Lev Sidorov failed to report to the assembly point for transfer to his military unit, for which he was sentenced to one year of imprisonment by the Nalchik Garrison Military Court.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," on September 24, 2022, Parts 2.1, 3.1, and 5 of Article 337, concerning unauthorized abandonment of a unit or place of service during mobilization, were introduced into the Russian Criminal Code. The amendments provide for imprisonment for up to 10 years. Tighter legislation following the announcement of mobilization led to harsher sentences for absence from a military unit or desertion.

The Nalchik Garrison Military Court sentenced serviceman Sidorov, finding him guilty of committing a crime under Part 3.1 of Article 337 of the Russian Criminal Code, the court reported on June 16 on its VKontakte page.

According to the case file, Sidorov failed to report for duty at a contract military service recruitment center in Nalchik on February 26 of this year without good reason, prior to his subsequent deployment to a military unit in the Rostov Region. He finally reported to the recruitment center on March 18.

In court, Sidorov admitted his guilt and expressed regret for his actions. The court sentenced him to one year in prison.

The court's website states that Lev Sidorov's case was submitted to the court on June 8, and the sentence was handed down on June 16 by Judge E. Pyatov.

As a reminder, on September 21, 2022, Vladimir Putin announced partial mobilization. On October 28 of that year, the Minister of Defense reported to the president on its completion, but no corresponding decree followed. Lawyers have concluded that a presidential decree is not needed to end partial mobilization, Putin's press secretary explained.
