Power engineers discovered an illegal mining farm with 111 cryptocurrency mining devices in the village of Untsukul.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot", on June 7, an illegal mining farm with 90 devices was discovered in the village of Maidanskoye in the Untsukulsky District.

Employees of the Dagenergo branch and law enforcement officers stopped the activities of an illegal mining farm in the village of Untsukul, RIA Novosti reported on June 13. "Dagestan," citing branch manager Magomedshapi Shapiev.

111 pieces of specialized cryptocurrency mining equipment were found at an unnamed site; they had been illegally connected to the power grid. Each device consumed approximately 3.5 kW, for a total of approximately 389 kW—which, according to Shapiev, is comparable to the energy consumption of an entire residential block.

As a reminder, in November 2025, Dagestani energy officials reported that they had uncovered 73 incidents of electricity theft by mining farm owners since the beginning of the year, causing total damage of 85.7 million rubles.

In December 2024, the head of Dagestan Sergey Melikov signed an appeal to the Russian government requesting a ban on cryptocurrency mining in the republic, given the growing load on the power grid. According to a Cabinet of Ministers decree, from 2025 to March 15, 2031, a complete ban on mining has been introduced, including in Dagestan, Ingushetia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Karachay-Cherkessia, North Ossetia, and Chechnya.
