As reported by the Caucasian Knot, in April, EU Ambassador to Georgia Pawel Gerchinski was summoned to the Foreign Ministry due to his statements, which the Georgian authorities regarded as a threat. The opposition claimed that the ruling Georgian Dream party continues anti-Western propaganda.

EU Ambassador to Georgia Pawel Herchinsky will continue to serve in Tbilisi after his initial term expires, the EU Delegation to Georgia told Georgian media.

The decision to extend the mandate of the head of the delegation was made earlier, the diplomatic mission reported, but did not disclose details of the new term, according to Novosti Georgia.

Herchinsky's four-year mandate as EU Ambassador to Georgia was scheduled to expire in September 2026. He assumed his post in Tbilisi in the fall of 2022. It was under him that Georgia received EU candidate status, lagging significantly behind Ukraine and Moldova, which became candidates in June 2022. Amid a sharp deterioration in relations between Brussels and the ruling Georgian Dream, Gerchinsky has become one of the main targets of criticism from the Georgian authorities, the publication reports.
