The court sentenced the man accused of murdering a judge in Kamyshin to a long prison term.

The Volgograd Regional Court sentenced Sergei Kibalnikov to 22 years in prison for the murder of Kamyshin City Court Federal Judge Vasily Vetlugin.

As reported by Kavkazsky Knot, the state prosecutor requested 23 years in a maximum security penal colony for Sergei Kibalnikov, who is accused of murdering Federal Judge Vasily Vetlugin.

Today, April 29, the final hearing in the criminal case of the murder of federal judge Vasily Vetlugin took place in Volgograd, V102.ru reported.

From the first hearing until the verdict was announced, the trial was held behind closed doors in the Volgograd Regional Court. This decision was made due to the circumstances of the crime and the status of the murdered Vasily Vetlugin. Media representatives were only allowed to attend the verdict today.

During the preliminary investigation and then during the trial, Sergei Kibalnikov, accused of murdering the judge, admitted guilt in the crime and actively cooperated with law enforcement.

By decision of the Volgograd Regional Court, Sergei Kibalnikov was found guilty of murder committed with particular cruelty, illegal manufacture of weapons, illegal possession of firearms, and intentional damage to property. The combined sentence was 22 years' imprisonment in a maximum-security penal colony, TASS reports.

The Volgograd Regional Court partially granted the civil suit filed by Vasily Vetlugin's relatives. Sergei Kibalnikov will pay the victim's mother 2 million rubles, and his wife 1.5 million rubles. He will also owe the judge's orphaned children 2 million rubles each. The amount Sergei Kibalnikov will use to cover funeral expenses will be determined through civil proceedings, the publication clarified.
