35 Russians evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan

Thirty-five Russian citizens crossed the Iranian-Azerbaijani border, while 82 Azerbaijani citizens and 110 representatives of other countries were also evacuated.

As reported by the "Caucasian Knot," more than 100 people, including foreigners, were evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan through the Astara checkpoint. About 500 people have been added to the list for evacuation from Iran via Azerbaijan. Russians are also advised to leave Iran via Armenia.

Due to military action in Iran, bus routes between Baku and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic through that country have been suspended. The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has recommended citizens to refrain from visiting Iran and Israel.

Thirty-five Russian citizens have been allowed to enter Azerbaijan through the Astara border and customs checkpoint.

Russian citizen Alexander Davydov reported that he was in Iran for work: "We didn't see anything on the Iranian side. We crossed the border. Azerbaijan received us well—they gave us hot tea and sweets. We are grateful for that," the agency quotes him as saying.

Previously, the Report agency reported that 192 people were evacuated from Iran to Azerbaijan between the morning of February 28 and 10:00 PM (9:00 PM Moscow time). 82 are citizens of Azerbaijan, and 110 are citizens of 19 foreign countries, including 28 citizens of Pakistan, 18 of Saudi Arabia, 18 of China, 17 of Tajikistan, 6 of the UAE, 4 of Jordan, 3 of Qatar, 3 of Bangladesh, 2 each of the Philippines and Nepal. As well as one citizen each from Turkey, Russia, Italy, Poland, Tunisia, Lebanon, India, France, and Brazil.

It should be noted that Azerbaijan's land borders with neighboring countries remain closed due to the quarantine regime introduced in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and border crossings are permitted in special cases with the permission of the country's authorities.

Russian citizens were evacuated from Iran through Azerbaijan during the 12-day war in June 2025.
