A Turkish court has rejected Hajibeyli's appeal against his detention in a deportation center
The Istanbul Magistrate's Court for Criminal Cases upheld the decision to place Azerbaijani opposition figure Gultekin Hajibeyli in a deportation center. She considers the court's ruling and the overall decision to deport her unlawful.
As reported by the " Caucasian Knot ," Gultekin Hajibeyli, a member of the Coordination Center of the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) of Azerbaijan, was detained in Turkey on the night of November 30. On December 3, it was reported that she was being held in a deportation center and was not allowed to see anyone. However, Turkish authorities have not officially announced whether they plan to deport Hajibeyli to Azerbaijan. Opposition figures have linked this detention to the case against the leader of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, Ali Karimli. Turkish authorities have decided to deport Gultekin Hajibeyli.
On December 16, the Istanbul Criminal Magistrates' Court rejected Hajibeyli's appeal against her detention at the Catalca Deportation Center in Istanbul.
"The court rejected my complaint and ordered that I be held in closed conditions, effectively under arrest, pending an appeal hearing in the Administrative Court. This decision has no legal basis and is the fulfillment of a political order," reads a post published on Hajibeyli's Facebook page*.
Hajibeyli emphasizes that she did not violate Turkish laws.
"It's unclear for what reason and on what basis I'm being forcibly detained, even though I haven't violated any laws in Turkey and have a two-year residence permit. In the current situation, when I only have a deportation order from Turkey with a five-year ban on re-entry, the Turkish government can only demand that I leave its territory. However, my actual detention without a court order or any legal basis, based solely on a deportation order from the Migration Service and a request from Azerbaijan, is a gross violation of the rule of law," Hajibeyli continues.
She notes that she does not understand why she was considered a danger to Turkish state security and why they decided to deport her.
"Why am I not allowed to leave Turkey and go to the country of my choice based on the deportation decision? All my questions are answered this way: it's an order from Ankara," Hajibeyli continues.
The National Council of Democratic Forces of Azerbaijan confirmed the veracity of the information posted on Hajibeyli's account, citing information from her relatives.
As the Caucasian Knot reported, after her arrest on November 29, Hajibeyli was taken to the Arnavutkoy Migration Center, and a few days ago she was transferred to the Chatalca Detention and Deportation Center.
