Three patients at a sanatorium in Nalchik have received compensation for contracting hepatitis and HIV
A Nalchik court partially upheld the claims of three victims in a case involving hepatitis and HIV infection at a private sanatorium. A convicted nurse is ordered to pay them 9 million rubles in compensation.
As reported by the " Caucasian Knot ," medical staff and management of a private sanatorium in Nalchik were accused of infecting five people with HIV and 71 patients with hepatitis C. The sanatorium's license was revoked . The case was brought to court in March, and victims told the "Caucasian Knot" that a nurse failed to open disposable syringes in front of patients. On December 15, the court sentenced the nurse to four years in prison, while her superiors—the sanatorium's general director and doctor— escaped punishment .
Ruslan Ozrokov, CEO of Medis Sanatorium LLC, Mukhadin Uzdenov, head of the neurology department, and Marianna Aloyeva, a nurse, were charged with violating sanitary regulations (Part 1 of Article 236 of the Russian Criminal Code). The latter was also charged with transmitting HIV (Part 4 of Article 122 of the Russian Criminal Code). Among those infected with hepatitis C were the sanatorium's cook, a massage therapist, and an administrator, to whom the nurse administered injections several times, according to patients.
The Nalchik City Court in Kabardino-Balkaria heard civil suits filed by three patients at a private sanatorium who contracted hepatitis and HIV during medical procedures at the facility.
The victims demanded compensation for moral damages. "The court ordered the nurse to pay 3 million rubles to each of the three plaintiffs," Interfax-Yug quotes a court press officer as saying.
The victims' claims against the sanatorium nurse convicted in the case were partially satisfied, but the court representative did not specify how exactly the court reduced the amount of the requested compensation.
It is also not reported how many other claims for compensation for moral damages have been filed in court by victims who contracted life-threatening infections at the sanatorium.
