Investigators add charges of distributing pornography to Serenko

Political scientist and former Volgograd City Duma deputy Mikhail Serenko, arrested in a case of public justification of Nazism and extortion, is now also accused of distributing pornographic materials.

On July 24, the court arrested him until September 18. Serenko has never been an oppositionist and has not criticized the government, the Volgograd journalist pointed out. After his arrest, the Volgograd Regional Duma deputy wrote a statement against Serenko, accusing him of slander, and the military considered one of the publications in the Telegram channel, which the investigation names Serenko as the author, to be discrediting the armed forces.

Volgograd investigators have opened another criminal case against Mikhail Serenko under the article on illegal circulation of pornographic materials. The new case has been combined in one proceeding with the previous ones, under the articles on rehabilitation of Nazism and extortion.

The investigation found a pretext for the new charge in the same Telegram channel, the publications of which became the reason for the articles previously charged against Serenko. A certain photograph, published in 2025, “according to the conclusion of the forensic examination, refers to pornographic material,” the official statement of the Volgograd Investigative Committee says.

The article on public display of pornographic materials on the Internet, charged to Serenko (part 3 of article 242 of the Criminal Code of Russia) provides for two to six years of imprisonment.
