Zarema Musaeva’s detention period extended

According to the ruling of the Shali District Court, Zarema Musaeva will remain in custody in the case on disrupting the operation of the penal colony until August 26. The defence will lodge an appeal against the above ruling of the Shali District Court.

On April 28, the Shali City Court of the Chechen Republic extended the pre-trial restriction measure for Zarema Musaeva until August 26, 2025. Aleksandr Savin, an advocate of Zarema Musaeva, requested the court to change the pre-trial restriction measure for his client to another form not involving imprisonment. Aleksandr Savin once again tried to convince the court that Zarema Musaeva could not interfere with the criminal case in any way and that her health state was steadily worsening in the SIZO (pre-trial prison), the “Team Against Torture”* reported.

In particular, the advocate insisted that if the pre-trial restriction measure is changed, Zarema Musaeva will be able to independently seek the medical care she needs at her place of registration in the city of Grozny. Including inpatient medical treatment. However, the court refused to change the pre-trial restriction measure for Zarema Musaeva. The advocate announced the intention to lodge an appeal against the court ruling.

Zarema Musaeva has been diagnosed with Type II diabetes with complications and hypertension. Furthermore, the woman’s health state has significantly worsened in custody: Zarema Musaeva complained of fainting, bleeding, deterioration of vision, pain in her legs, and loss of sensitivity in her feet.
