Activists tell on celebrating Circassian Flag Day

The cities of Sochi and Maykop have hosted concerts in honour of the Circassian Flag Day; and a ceremonial procession was held in Nalchik.

Every year, on April 25, residents of Adygea, Kabardino-Balkaria and Karachay-Cherkessia celebrate the Circassian Flag Day. The Circassian Flag is one of the main symbols of the Adyg (Circassian) nation. It is a green rectangular field with three crossed golden arrows and 12 golden stars. The crossed arrows in the flag are a symbol of unity and peace.

Madjid Chachukh, the Chairman of the “Adyghe Khase” organization of the Black Sea Adyg-Shapsugs, has reported that the events dedicated to the Flag Day were held in schools and kindergartens of the Sochi region. "And in the evening, a festive concert was held in the House of Culture of the Tsentralny District of Sochi," he has added.

Ramazan Tlemeshok, the Chairman of the “Adyghe Khase” of the Republic of Adygea, said that the celebration centre in Maykop (the capital) was the republic’s philharmonic society. "First, a festive concert was held there; and then Circassian dances. Similar events were also held in all the districts of Adygea," he has noted.

Mukhamed Khafitse, the Chairman of the “Adyghe Khase” of the Kabardino-Balkarian Republic (KBR), has noted that a ceremonial procession (march) was held in honour of the holiday in the capital of the republic, the city of Nalchik.

The Adygs (Circassians) is the general name of the united nation in Russia and abroad, divided into Kabardins, Circassians and Adygs. In Russia, Adygs live in Adygea, KBR, Karachay-Cherkessia, Krasnodar Territory, North Ossetia and Stavropol Territory.
