In Dagestan, villagers face pressure from law enforcers amid protest against land development

The people, who intended to organize a gathering in the village of Chokh with the demand to cancel the decision to transfer pasture lands for urban development, faced pressure from law enforcers. The activists were not allowed to hold a gathering.

Residents of the village of Chokh in the Gunibsky District are outraged by the actions of village head Nurmagomed Nurmagomedov, who, without discussing the matter with the villagers, agreed to allocate 8.4 hectares of land for an investment project. According to the project, a tourist complex with guest houses, a swimming pool, and a parking lot will be built in the Chokh village. Local residents also express their indignation with the unfair allocation of land plots to participants in the special military operation. The people note that more than 100 residents of the village took part in the special military operation (SMO), but some of the fighters were denied plots of land.

In their video message addressed to the leader of Dagestan, the villagers ask for help in solving their problems, the “Sapa Kavkaz” Telegram channel reports.

“The villagers wanted to find a dialogue with the authorities while observing all legal norms ... Instead, the authorities completely ignored the people and also brought in law enforcers to prevent the gathering,” stated Magomed, a resident of the Chokh village.

Zaur Tsokholov, one of the initiators of the gathering, reported that on March 15, the gathering of residents did not take place due to resistance from law enforcers: about 50 police officers arrived in the village.
