Georgian advocate complains about political persecution

Advocate Mikhail Ramishvili has left Georgia and is going to seek political asylum abroad. The advocate accuses the Georgian authorities of persecution and attempting to put pressure on the entire legal community.

According to the Mikhail Ramishvili’s story, he has left Georgia, as he cannot defend himself or his clients, in whose cases he is involved as a defender. However, the advocate does not refuse to defend his clients, stating that he will participate in the trials online, the “Georgia-Online” portal reports.

Mikhail Ramishvili believes there is a high probability that he may soon end up in prison together with other prisoners of conscience. Meanwhile, the advocate has noted that he cannot be imprisoned because of his health state. Mikhail Ramishvili claims that he is being threatened with arrest because of a house he purchased in 2019. According to the advocate’s version, the house was purchased in good faith, but a criminal case has still been instituted against him on alleged falsification of documents.

The advocate believes that the “Georgian Dream” Party wants to harm not only him, but the entire parliamentary corps. “We are a certain group of people who are at a rally 24 hours a day, and 24 hours a day we are defending the rights of those people who demand the protection of their rights, democracy, and freedom. Therefore, it is this group that they intend to destroy, and they are starting with me,” the “Georgia-Online” portal quotes Mikhail Ramishvili as stating.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that in 2020-2023, Mikhail Ramishvili represented the interests of the family of software engineer Tamar Bachaliashvili. According to the investigators’ version, the software engineer committed suicide. However, after some time, an investigator claimed that he did not believe in the suicide version, and he was accused of obstructing justice.
