Students demand to release actors detained at protests in Tbilisi

In Tbilisi, protesters intentionally went out into the streets wearing masks, thereby violating the recently introduced ban. Students from two universities have joined the demands to release actors Andro Chichinadze and Vepkhiya Kasradze, who are accused of participating in group violence.

On January 5, citizens gathered in Tbilisi for a protest action again. On the 39th evening of the protest, Rustaveli Avenue became the epicentre of the protest. The people who gathered there demanded to hold new parliamentary elections and release political prisoners. The protestors have promised to fight until their demands are met.

Protesters intentionally put on medical masks, although covering the face at protest actions is now prohibited, the “News-Georgia” portal reports.

Students from the Free University and the Agrarian University have come to the Theatre University on Rustaveli Avenue and expressed their solidarity with other young people, the “Mtavari Arkhi” TV Company reports.

On December 19, the Theatre University expressed its solidarity with actors Andro Chichinadze and Vepkhiya Kasradze and called on to release them. Andro Chichinadze is accused of participating in group violence. Vepkhiya Kasradze is a father of five, an actor at the Tskhinvali Theatre, and a veteran. He has been accused of organizing and leading group violence.

Singer Lela Tsurtsumiya gave a charity concert with her band at the “Monohall”, the proceeds from which she donated to the “Nanuka” Foundation. The money will be spent for help to those detained and arrested during the protest actions and their family members.
