Kadyrov reports on thousands sent to frontline

Since the start of the special military operation (SMO) in Ukraine, over 51,000 fighters have been sent from Chechnya, including 20,400 volunteers. About 10,000 fighters from Chechnya are in the combat zone, Ramzan Kadyrov has reported on the departure of a new group from the Grozny Airport.

The head of Chechnya has reported about sending another group of fighters to the SMO zone in his Telegram channel, adding that they all had undergone training at the Russian Special Forces University.

Let us remind you that on July 27, 2024, Kadyrov said that 45,000 fighters had already been sent from Chechnya to Ukraine. However, the data on the total number of law enforcers sent from Chechnya fails to include those militaries who have left, are in barracks, on leave, or those who have left the combat zone as part of rotation. At the same time, Kadyrov regularly emphasizes that the flow of volunteers is not decreasing.

This October, Kadyrov said that a Chechen should behave "in accordance with the norms of religion and our traditions," and called the service in the Russian Army the best choice for "the young men leading an idle lifestyle."

On November 4, the "Memorial" Centre for Human Rights Defence (CHRD)* reported that in Chechnya, law enforcers were detaining men offering them a choice of being sent to the SMO or facing criminal prosecution for visiting the Telegram channels of critics of Chechen authorities.

They demand from detainees to sign contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defence (MoD), since Chechnya lacks volunteers for sending to the SMO, Ruslan Kutaev, a political analyst and Svetlana Gannushkina**, a human rights defender, have noted.

*As reported on the website of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), the reason for including on March 1, 2024, the unregistered "Memorial" Centre for Human Rights Defence (CHRD) into the roster of foreign agents was the spread of "inaccurate information aimed at creating a negative image of the Russian Federation, as well as the Russian Armed Forces."

**Included by the Russian Ministry of Justice (MoJ) into the register of foreign agents.
