Explosion in Novy Khushet is 15th incident at fuelling stations in Dagestan in 10 years

The explosion at the fuelling station near the village of Novy Khushet was preceded by at least 14 incidents with explosions or fires at fuelling stations in Dagestan since 2014, in which at least 54 people perished, the "Caucasian Knot" has calculated.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on September 27, an explosion occurred at a fuelling station located on the highway near the village of Novy Khushet, near Makhachkala outskirts. A total of 13 people were killed by the explosion; 11 others were wounded.

Sergey Melikov, the head of Dagestan, has reported today that violations had been found at the above fuelling station, but they were subsequently eliminated. He has added that in 2023, more than 230 fuelling stations were suspended due to various violations, but after a short time, more than 130 of them resumed work by court rulings.

In August 2023, as a result of an explosion at a fuelling station in Makhachkala, 37 people were killed and more than a hundred were wounded.

On April 1, 2022, an explosion occurred at a fuelling station near the village of Sabnova in the Derbent District while refuelling a car. Two men were injured in the explosion, both were hospitalized. According to sources, the explosion occurred due to a malfunction of equipment.

Another incident occurred on September 28, 2021, in Makhachkala. Three men suffered; two of them were hospitalized with burns of over 50% of their bodies. The fire occurred due to the carelessness of workers, the "Nafta24" Company has stated.

On January 30, 2018, two people were injured by an explosion at a fuelling station in the village of Kakamakhi in the Levashinsky District.
