Kevin Lik, convicted of treason, tells details of his liberation

The transfer from the colony to the airport to participate in the exchange of prisoners with Western countries occurred suddenly, and before that, law enforcers offered to write a clemency petition, said Kevin Lik, a 19-year-old resident of Maykop, after his release.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on December 28, 2023, Kevin Lik, a citizen of Germany and Russia, was sentenced to four years on charges of treason. On August 1, Lik and 15 other convicts were released as part of a prisoner exchange with Western countries.

According to investigators, Lik had helped Germany in the activities aimed against Russia's security: he monitored a local military unit and made photos of its locations. On July 30, his mother reported that he had disappeared from the colony.

Kevin Lik said that two weeks before the exchange, he was asked to write a petition for clemency. On July 27, the duty officer called him. "I was being taken away in a special vehicle, and I realized that something was happening. I asked the colony boss: 'You are not telling me where they are taking me. Maybe they are taking me to the 33rd kilometre to shoot me dead'. The boss said: 'Can't you guess?' I understood that the chance [of release] was very small, but I hoped that maybe something would work out," Kevin Lik said.

After the verdict, Lik won't be sent to a German prison as a citizen of Germany, since for Russian law enforcers only his Russian citizenship mattered, lawyers have pointed out.

Kevin has noted that when the exchanged prisoners were on the way to the airport, an FSB agent who did not like Lik's behaviour told him: "What, have you sensed the freedom? We're taking you back now."

Kevin Lik is currently undergoing a medical examination in Germany. According to his story, he has lost a lot of body weight.
