Cassation Court refuses to commute Nozdrinov's sentence

The sentence to Alexander Nozdrinov, a journalist and blogger from the Krasnodar Territory, sentenced to 8.5 of freedom deprivation within the case of fakes about the Russian Army, has been upheld.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that Nozdrinov was sentenced for spreading fakes about the Russian Army (Article 207.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). The court also banned him from working in media for four years. His relatives link his prosecution with his civic position and claimed that the court was biased. The defence appealed against Nozdrinov's sentence, pointing out that the first-instance court had violated his right to defence and showed bias; while the verdict was based on the conclusions of unprofessional expertise, but on February 19, 2024, the appeal court upheld it. In early May, it became known that Nozdrinov was transferred to Colony No. 9 in the town of Khadyzhensk.

Now, the Cassation Court has upheld the Nozdrinov's sentence, the human rights project "OVD-Info"* has informed.

The project "Support for Political Prisoners. Memorial" has announced Alexander Nozdrinov as a political prisoner. His wife claims that Alexander had not published the post that he is accused of in his criminal case; and Alexander Isavnin, an expert brought into the process by the defence, found "signs of editing and falsification" in the prosecution's proofs, in particular, in the screenshots of the publications that formed the basis of the case.
