Blogger Alibekov complains about obstacles in communicating with family

Askhabali Alibekov, a native of Dagestan, accused of using violence against a law enforcer, has stated that he is deprived of telephone conversations with his relatives, and his letters were not sent. He has asked to consider his case in a special manner, explaining that he wants to return to his family.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that according to investigators, during detention, Alibekov kicked a policeman twice in the leg. On March 4, 2024, a court in Kazan ruled to arrest him for two months.

In March 2023, Askhabali Alibekov was sentenced to a year and two months of freedom deprivation: the court concluded that the video he had posted in his YouTube channel discredited the Russian Army. In November of the same year, Alibekov was released.

Alibekov asked to consider his case in a special manner. He stated that he had been deprived of telephone conversations with his family for four months, and no paper letters were given to him, the human rights project "OVD-Info"* has informed.

The special procedure allows conducting the trial promptly, without studying proofs and imposing a punishment below the lowest limit provided for by the respective article. The defendant agrees with the charges completely, and the court examines only mitigating and aggravating circumstances.

Alibekov has also stated that after being beaten by law enforcers during his detention, he was not provided with medical care. According to his story, he washed his wounds with salt water. Besides, he has stated that he had to change his advocate, because one of them was "intimidated."
