Journalist Nadezhda Kevorkova rejects accusation of justifying terrorism

During questioning, journalist Nadezhda Kevorkova, who was involved as a witness for the defence in the case on the attack on Nalchik, refused to admit guilt in justifying terrorism, an advocate reported. That was reported by the TASS with reference to advocate Kaloi Akhilgov.

The “Caucasian Knot” has reported that investigators accused Nadezhda Kevorkova of justifying terrorism. The reason for the accusation was a repost of journalist Orkhan Djemal’s text about the attack on Nalchik and a publication about the “Taliban” movement*.

Nadezhda Kevorkova criticized the actions of law enforcers in Northern Caucasus in general and in Kabardino-Balkaria in particular. So, on July 3, 2021, the law enforcement bodies announced that they carried out a counterterrorist operation (CTO) in Nalchik and Baksan, as a result of which five militants were killed. Nadezhda Kevorkova reported that one of those killed suspects was identified as Khasanbi Khupsirgenov, convicted in the case on the attack on Nalchik in 2005. According to the journalist’s information, all five killed suspects, including Khasanbi Khupsirgenov, Anzor Barazov, Arsen Mendokhov, Mamaz Chikhradze, and Khasan Shogenov, had been kidnapped before the CTO and that the special operation was stage-managed.

Let us remind you that Nadezhda Kevorkova was accused of justifying terrorism for a post in her personal Telegram channel, which she posted in 2018: it was the text prepared by perished journalist Orkhan Djemal. In 2010, the journalist published a text about the attack on Nalchik.

“In Russia, different social environments will become radicalized. And these are not only Muslims, and not only natives of the Caucasus. In the 2000s, it was believed that Northern Caucasus was a socially problematic region. Such vulgar Marxism is to attribute all the problems of the Caucasus to corruption, high unemployment, and so on. They say that’s why there are terrorists there,” Orkhan Djemal stated in his publication.

*The Supreme Court (SC) of the Russian Federation recognized the movement as a terrorist organization and banned it in Russia.
