Court releases Malgobek law enforcers accused of extortion

Three policemen from Ingushetia, accused of using violence against a detainee and extortion, have been released. The Supreme Court (SC) of Ingushetia has explained that the period specified by law for the preliminary investigation had expired and their further detention is illegal.

The "Caucasian Knot" has reported that on October 20, 2023, investigators announced detention of four policemen suspected under a criminal case of abuse of power with the use of violence.

According to investigators, on October 5, 2023, four employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) unjustifiably detained a 31-year-old local resident and used violence against him, demanding that he confess to involvement in drug trafficking. Investigators also believe that policemen had extorted money from the detainee and demanded that he transfer the rights to his apartment in Karabulak to them.
